See Rare Succulents at Al Klein's Botanic Wonders Nursery
You think YOU like succulents? Al Klein of Botanic Wonders nursery calls them "an addiction."
Al is a comet on the cactus and succulent scene. It seems he’s everywhere, doing speaking engagements, selling on the show circuit, greeting nursery visitors, and sharing a lifetime of info and enthusiasm.
Al’s story bubbles out of him as he takes us through his greenhouses. Although he grows nearly every kind of succulent, he’s especially into caudiciforms, succulent bonsai, seed-starting, and anything out of the ordinary---the “weird ones.”
Botanic Wonders supplies select nurseries in San Diego County and online: https//botanicwonders.com. The nursery also is open to the public by appointment: (760) 519-9987.
Be sure to to the CORRESPONDING PAGE of my site for more info and a labeled gallery of the extraordinary succulents Al showed me at Botanic Wonders.

Psychology of Succulents with Grower-Hybridizer Steven Hammer Part Four of SDCSS Series
Переглядів 2,1 тис.21 день тому
In my latest video, mesemb expert Steven Hammer gives perspective on the psychological appeal of succulents. I love how his mind works. Wait 'til you hear him compare Japanese haworthia collectors' preferences to how beauty was perceived in Jane Austen's England. Steven is an erudite delight. His clever metaphors and tongue-in-cheek comments make listeners (or readers) do a double-take. In the ...

Discover Dwarf Aloes: Varieties, Potting & Care Essentials

These diminutive aloes have intriguing textures, patterns and colors. Many have teeth that contrast with the green or blue of the leaves. No worries, these are not sharp or spiny succulents! You should see my pathetic little tangerine aloe (Aloe Arborescens cross bred with Cape Aloe). My Maculata's are enormous and flowering and my regular Arborescens are 6+ years old and doing fantastic, but OMG I'm jealous of these beautiful Cape Aloes!!! I'm wondering how long those have been growing in that spot?! I've never seen such mature Cape Aloe, I'm certain it has to do with the fact that I'm in southern Virginia. I would give a pinky finger to have one of those! 😆

They didn't seem to mind that white stuff ate that also. I have no idea how they are able to chew up the spines without poking their mouth. We live in Phoenix cactus just popup out of the ground here I saw a new one starting to grow in a different area. Not sure why the insect attacked those they are in direct sun all day it seemed to have happen in the winter time.

Indeed, you have a refined eye leading to distinct preferences. I’m sometimes amazed at how collectors enthuse over succulents that don’t do it for me. It’s not necessarily about aesthetics, sometimes it’s the plants’ anthropomorphic qualities (i.e. certain caudiciforms) or their rarity. Or spines, the fiercer the better. I suspect that of all types of plants, succulents lend themselves to preferences related more to form than flowers. Fascinating, isn’t it? Thanks for commenting!
